Ascended Heroes: Inside 2026's Biggest Set on Record

295 cards, a brand-new Mega Attack Rare tier, the first Mega Dragonite ex, and Team Rocket's Mewtwo. A walkthrough of the largest single Pokémon TCG expansion ever printed.
A set built on excess
Ascended Heroes released on January 30, 2026 with 295 numbered cards before secrets — the largest single expansion in the modern era. The set introduces the new Mega Attack Rare rarity, debuts Mega Dragonite ex on cardboard, brings back Team Rocket through a Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex, and includes all 13 currently legal Mega Evolution Pokémon ex.
The scale is the story. Larger sets historically depress per-card prices at launch because supply outpaces collector appetite, but they also build deeper master-set demand 12 to 24 months later. Both effects are visible here.
The new rarity tier
Mega Attack Rare is essentially a textured, foil-treatment version of select Mega ex cards positioned just below the SIR tier in pull odds. Early data suggests the slot lands roughly 1-in-30 packs, with character distribution unevenly weighted. Mega Charizard ex MAR pulls have, predictably, traded at multiples of the average chase.
Top of the chase list
- Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex (SIR) — The cultural moment.
- Mega Dragonite ex (Hyper Rare) — First-print premium plus a top-five fan favorite character.
- Mega Charizard ex (Mega Attack Rare) — Demand defies modeling.
- Mega Mewtwo ex (SIR) — Pulled into Team Rocket Mewtwo's gravity well.
- N's Reshiram ex (Full Art Trainer Gallery) — Trainer-coded cards continue to outperform.
The case for and against opening boxes
For: Ascended Heroes has more chase cards than any set in recent memory. The probability of opening something worth real money is higher than usual.
Against: The set is enormous. Master-setting it from packs is mathematically punishing. If your goal is the binder, singles win.
What to actually do
Open product to enjoy the set. Cherry-pick singles to complete the rest. Treat sealed product as a separate decision — long-term, the largest sets in TCG history have generally rewarded sealed holders, but the 12-month window is rough.
